The Hussar is a light cavalry unit in Age of Empires II: The Conquerors that can be trained at the Stable once the Imperial Age is reached. They are quick, have decent pierce armor and high Line of Sight as well as an innate resistance to conversion and an attack bonus against Monks. The. indicates that the civilization can fully upgrade their Hussars, i.e. Gets Blast Furnace, Plate Barding. Anyway, to me the 'best' is the civ who can win the most games on the most maps in the most matchups, so the best archer civ is the civ who can use Archers to win the most games. That would be hands down the Huns. Only the Mayans come close. Zoom through Dark, start putting out Archers with that incredible wood-saving bonus. Nov 16, 2019 The best Age of Empires II civilization for new players. At the risk of giving a non-answer, there is no 'best' civilization for new players, just as there is no 'best' civilization overall. For its 20th anniversary, Age of Empires II is getting another facelift—and a bunch of interface tweaks, new tutorials and challenges, and an entire expansion's worth of content. I play other old game- Rage of Mages. That game is good ONLY for Singleplayer. SO, I will be glad and very happy, if you add new Campaigns, maps and units for this game. Rage of Mages was created at the same time as Age of Empires 2. But Aoe 2 is similar to CHESS. I need to know everything to be good at it.

Infantry is the core of any army found anywhere in the world. Specialised units like archers and cavalry are powerful but costly. Infantry can be produced in large numbers for little resources.
Due to this, infantry based civilizations are well received in most strategy games. Age of Empires 2 is no different, with a plethora of units available through the barracks or unique units.
If you’re looking to sink your teeth into a civilization that utilises your favorite unit type, I’ll be going through the 10 best in Age of Empires 2.
Rankings are dependant on a number of factors. Each civilization has unique bonuses for their infantry, while some are able to produce units quicker or have access to powerful unique infantry units.
10. Slavs
Unique Unit: Boyar
Boyar being the unique unit has nothing to do with infantry, instead it’s a heavy cavalry unit. However, Slavs have access to a powerful unique research that grants splash damage to all infantry units.
It does cost 1200 Food and 500 Gold, which is a heavy price to pay and severely affects this civilization’s rankings. If you can afford it though, Druzhina will make your infantry armies particularly formidable.
9. Malians
Unique Unit: Gbeto
In addition to the light and versatile Gbeto unit, Malians grant additional pierce armor to their infantry units per age, helping protect against archer fire.
They cannot upgrade to the Halberdier which is a huge downside. Gbeto units are one of the best anti-infantry skirmishers in the game though, moving and attacking very fast.
8. Teutons
Unique Unit: Teutonic Knight
Teutonic Knights are simply the best infantry unit in the game, in combat. Heavy armor and hard-hitting attacks allow them to beat any other melee unit in the game in a 1v1 fight.
Obviously, such heavy armor takes a toll on their movement speed. Teutonic Knights are slow, vulnerable to ranged units. Utilise them wisely, while they are strong, they are expensive.
The unique Crenellations tech allows infantry to fire arrows when garrisoned too.
7. Vikings
Unique Unit: Berserk
Fielding powerful Berserk units with the ability to regenerate, Vikings excel at long skirmishes. Most armies need to return to base to recover, or bring Monks with them.
Chieftains grant additional attack against cavalry. The Spearman line becomes even more effective at that point, except enemies to field more archers as Vikings are vulnerable to ranged attacks.
Additional HP, increasing with the Age you’re in, provides extra bulkiness to prolong fights.

6. Ethiopians
Unique Unit: Shotel Warrior
Shotel Warriors are produced faster than most other units in the game, allowing you to amass armies quickly and consistently. In battle, they do have low HP so can be killed easily, a high attack stat means they deal some damage before going down, though.
A nice little bonus for Ethiopians is the free Pikeman upgrade!
Having access to everything a Siege Workshop can produce is a huge boon, not exactly infantry based but keep it in mind.
5. Bulgarians
Unique Unit: Konnik
If you’re looking for an army focused on the militia line, Bulgarians are the choice for you. Bagains grant 5 armor to the line and upgrades are free!
Blacksmiths also work 50%. Not having to wait long to get a fully upgraded militia line is pretty awesome, you can field an upgraded army in no time at all.
4. Japanese
Unique Unit: Samurai
Samurai are a specilist unit, gaining a crazy high attack bonus against other unique units. In addition, they have an innately increased attack speed, as well as the Japanese’s bonus of 33% after reaching the Feudal Age (works for all infantry).
Other than the Samurai and attack speed bonus, this civilization doesn’t offer much else for infantry. However, I firmly believe it’s well worth making top 5 on this list, for how fun and effective the Samurai are.
3. Malay
Unique Unit: Karambit Warrior
My personal second favorite, specifically for the Karambit Warriors. They’re extremely cheap & take up half a population unit. It’s tempting to produce hundreds of them, however you should utilise them wisely. Each one can be killed easily, so use them for hit-and-run tactics, taking out villagers and stray military units.
The Forced Levy tech changes any infantry unit costs from food/gold to just food, allowing you to put your gold into more important units like Knights.
2. Aztecs
Unique Unit: Jaguar Warrior
Fielding one of the most powerful infantry units in the game, second only to Teutonic Knights in a 1v1 fight, are the Aztecs. You cannot build any cavalry at all with this civilization, putting your complete focus into infantry based game-play.
Garland Wars gives infantry even more attack. Aztecs are a ridiculously easy civilization to play, I strongly recommend them for learning how to properly play infantry.
1. Goths
Unique Unit: Huskarl
A fully upgraded Barracks belonging to the Goths will work 120% faster than other civilizations, including research. Additionally, infantry are 35% cheaper starting from the Feudal Age, and gain extra attack against buildings.
Most of their power comes in the form of Huskarls, powerful infantry that are basically immune to ranged attacks. This civilization requires a lot more micro management than others but overall, the bonuses offered make it well worth the effort.

Few franchises in the history of gaming have been as long-standing as Age of Empires, Ensemble Studios’ classic historical RTS.
And very few games have been played for such a long time as Age of Empires II, arguably the most beloved installment in the series.
It’s been going strong since 1999 and with the release of the HD Edition in 2013 and the arrival of the Definitive Edition in November 2019, it doesn’t look like that’s going to end anytime soon.
With the HD version came several new civilizations to control and develop into bustling empires, complicating the ever-controversial question of which civilization is the best.
Some may do better on certain maps, some benefit from 1v1 settings or are good in team games, and the list of variables goes on making it hard to make a simple ranking.
To simplify this I’ve turned to aoestats.io, an independent project that monitors the game’s competitive scene and provides easy to understand data such as win rate, overall usage, and average game score for each civilization.
So without further ado, here are the best civilizations with the highest win-rate in AoEII: HD Edition.
10. Britons
The first entry in our list happens to be the Britons, a classic civilization with a focus on archery for their military strategies.
Their archery ranges produce units considerably faster than the average civilization, and their archers in general have a longer range.
Their unique unit is the Longbowman which can out-range virtually every other unit in the game as well as towers and castles once fully upgraded.
Their villagers gather food faster from sheep, and their Town Centers are cheaper than usual, which helps their economy and gives them the possibility of expanding in the mid-game much faster.
9. Berbers
A big part of many strategies for winning a game depend on progressing through the ages faster.
And the Berbers have the fastest Feudal Age times in the list.
They’re focused on cavalry which they can produce for cheaper costs once they hit Castle Age.
Their Camel Archer unit is among the best ranged mounted units as well, with excellent strength and accuracy, and it benefits from the Maghrabi Camels tech which grants Berber camel units a regenerative ability.
A good choice if you want to move fast and grow even faster.
8. Mayans
The Mayans not only win a lot of games, they’re also simply present in most of them.
They’re a fan favorite and the second most picked civilization in the list, right under the Huns.
Their early game is excellent thanks to their superior scout, the Eagle Warrior, and they can get to work faster thanks to an extra starting villager. How to install piano one fl studio.
They win most of their games in the early mid-game when they can fully benefit from their longer lasting resources and amazingly cost-efficient Plumed Archer unique unit.
7. Indians
Age Of Empires 2 Strategy
This is one of the first new civilizations added to the game with the release of the HD Edition.
Aoe 2 Best Civ For Black Forest
The Indians focus on camels and gunpowder units, among which their Hand Cannoneers excel after getting the +1 Range upgrade from the Shatagni tech.
Their Imperial Camel, which replaces the Knight, is also notably useful.
While somewhat weaker than its European counterpart, the Imperial Camel also costs much less.
Their economy can become much more profitable than the average civilization too thanks to their Sultans tech which increases all gold income by 10%.
6. Aztecs
The Aztecs are another great early game civilization that generally wins its games in the blink of an eye.
This is mostly thanks to economy boosts such as villagers carrying more resources and an extra 50 gold at the start of the game.
They can also profit greatly from relics, which generate 30% more gold for the Aztecs and their teammates.
Although they lack any cavalry whatsoever, their infantry units, including the Eagle Warrior scout, are very strong thanks to a full tech tree and two unique upgrades.
And those units are produced 18% faster along with all other Aztec military units.
5. Vikings
Contrary to what you might expect, the Vikings aren’t only strong at sea. They can also dominate on land as well.
Their Berserk unique infantry unit can regenerate and is therefore much more viable for small harassing incursions.
In regards to their economy, their most notable and very helpful bonus is getting both the Wheelbarrow and Handcart techs for free. Which will make them an absolute powerhouse during the time it takes other civilizations to research them.
4. Huns
The most played civilization in the list is also one of the most unique.
Their most notable characteristic is that they don’t need houses for their population, which saves you a lot of time and resources in the early and mid-game.
It also lets you focus much more on micromanaging military units and outmaneuvering your foes while they worry about social housing projects.
Their unique unit, the Tarkan, excels at razing defensive structures.
It’s a very viable unit thanks to the Marauders technology that allows you to produce them in stables, which are 20% faster for the Huns.
3. Incas
Another Native American civilization makes the list, following the same early game domination strategies as the others.
Like the Huns, they need to worry less about housing as their houses have double the population capacity of normal ones.
And they get a free llama at the start of the game to give you the food boost you need to fill them up faster.
A nice strategy with the Incas is the classic Tower Rush, made easier thanks to their 15% discount when building stone structures, and supported by their extra-durable villagers.
2. Slavs
The Slavs are the silent assassins of the game.
One wouldn’t generally expect them to be so successful!
Their many victories can probably be explained by their amazing economy, carried by villagers who work 15% faster.
Their siege units also come at a discount, helping them build strong high-cost armies faster and more consistently.
However once the game starts getting too long and gold becomes scarce, they start losing ground fast. So it’s best to wrap things up as quickly as possible.
1. Franks
The Franks may feel like an unusual choice for best civilization to some people.
But the numbers don’t lie!
![Definitive Definitive](https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/ageofempires/images/c/c1/Aoe2_all_civs.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/340?cb=20200414035520)
The Franks are not only the most successful civilization in the AoE II competitive scene, they’re also ahead by a large margin.
Their power comes from two main things: a strong economy thanks to faster berry pick-up and free farm upgrades(which lets them advance through the ages much faster) and their bonus 20% cavalry health.
One of the most popular strategies in the game that’s absolutely dominated by the Franks is the early Scout Rush, thanks to their mounted scout units being 20% more resistant in general.
Aoe 2 Best Civilization
If that fails you’ll still reach Imperial Age faster than most and your mighty Frank paladins can carry you to victory.
